“The Vampire Diaries” has been doing a good job of keeping the details of Nina Dobrev’s exit from the show under wraps and with only three episodes left until the sixth season’s finale, fans are on the verge of their seats wondering how her character Elena Gilbert will bid her farewell. Now co-star Michael Malarkey has teased Dobrev’s exit, assuring TVD viewers that they will appreciate Elena’s goodbye scenes.

Malarkey, who plays Enzo in the CW series, told Digital Spy that Dobrev’s “tasteful” exit will give her the chance to say goodbye to everybody on the show in a certain way. "You get to see some scenes with her and a lot of other characters. It's going to be a chance for the fans to recall a lot of those relationships and how they've progressed over the years," he said.

The actor added that while he and the rest of the TVD family are obviously going to miss the show’s leading lady, he believed that it was a “smart move” for a lady at Dobrev’s age to “get out there and start doing more work.” He also expressed high hopes for the next season, in which Dobrev will no longer be a part of, saying that it was a big opportunity for the showrunners to focus on the other characters’ storylines and to “revamp” the show.

In a previous report by Us Weekly, Malarkey also talked about Dobrev’s final moments when the cast wrapped up production on season six. He shared that Dobrev choked up a few times when reading her last lines, and that everyone on set became a bit emotional. While he found it “bittersweet” for Dobrev to officially leave the show, he hoped that fans would be able to move past the fact that their leading lady will no longer be there for season seven and still appreciate the new stories that are about to surface.

Meanwhile, executive producer Julie Plec previously took to Twitter to answer fans’ questions on the impact Dobrev’s exit will have on her vampire lover Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder. Plec told fans to “wait and see” and that assures them that they would find Elena’s departure “very moving and very respectful” of her relationship with Damon.

This week’s episode of the supernatural drama would tackle Elena’s decision of regaining her humanity and whether she was going to take the vampire cure alone or Damon will live a human life with her. Complications arise when Stefan convinces his brother Damon that being a human was the last thing he would want to do and Bonnie asking Elena what she would do if her human self was not in love with Damon at all.

It remains unclear if Elena will take the back-to-human antidote, although Dobrev’s exit in real life skyrockets the chances of her proceeding with the plan. Whatever the case, the cure will play a big role on how the showrunners will tie the details of the season finale with Dobrev’s departure.
