Details on how Nina Dobrev’s exit from “The Vampire Diaries” will be tied to her character Elena Gilbert’s departure from Mystic Falls become clearer as she became human once again in the latest episode of the hit CW series. With two more episodes left until the Season 6 finale, fans are left to guess whether or not Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder, will follow Elena to humanity, and how their beloved leading lady will be written off from the show.

In the latest TVD episode “I’d Leave My Happy Home For You,” Elena finally decided to take the back-to-human antidote, which in turn gave her back memories of Damon. She saw flashes of her relationship with Damon throughout the years, but not all of them were good ones –- one memory was of the first time the couple talked about the cure in Nova Scotia, and Damon told Elena straight up that there was nothing more “miserable on earth” than being human, MTV stated.

One question remains on the minds of the viewers: will Damon take the vampire cure too or not? It would seem that Elena would come to realise that she would not want Damon to sacrifice his own happiness for hers, so she herself would discourage him to be human with her. Moreover, Somerhalder has officially signed himself for the show’s next season, putting an end to the rumours about his departure from the supernatural drama as well.

Meanwhile, Lily, the Salvatore brothers’ mom, loses control at one of the parties before Jo and Alaric’s wedding, almost killing Jo but eventually letting her go when the rampant vampire found out she was pregnant, Ksitetv reported. With Lily’s bloodlust, the almost husband and wife will have to leave town soon, and another question viewers want answers to is if Elena will go with them. It would only make sense for her to leave with Ric, since he is the only family she has left. With Jo and the twins underway, she would have a chance to turn over a new leaf in a new place from the dangers of Mystic Falls.

“I’d Leave My Happy Home For You” ended with Kai (Christ Woods) preparing to escape prison along with his own pack of hybrid vampires to hunt down Jo’s twins, which were apparently a big threat to his recently acquired power, according to We Got This Covered. It appears that even if Bonnie (Kat Graham) already destroyed the ascendant, there were other ways out of the 1903 prison world.

It would seem that the season finale is gearing towards Elena finally living the human life she has always wanted, but without a happily ever after with the love of her life Damon. Showrunners could only tell fans to wait and see, as the final episode of TVD will be aired on May 14, 8/7c on the CW.
