American rock singer Melissa Etheridge announced her plans to marry television producer Linda Wallem last Wednesday via Twitter after the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on DOMA and Prop 8.

Etheridge and Wallem both reside in California and have been together for almost three years. The 52-year old singer is a strong gay rights advocate who came out in 1993.

"I look forward to exercising my American civil liberties and getting fully, completely and legally married this year to my true love of over three years, Linda Wallem," she said in a statement.

CNN also interviewed Etheridge where she expressed her joy on another milestone that the LGBT community in America achieved. "I woke them up this morning telling them the Supreme Court ruling on DOMA, and I'm so proud of my daughter Bailey, my son Beckett, and Johnnie Rose and Miller, and Linda, I love you all, I love everybody out there. It's a great day," she said.

Wallem is the executive producer of the cable television series "Nurse Jackie". She also produced the shows "Whitney" and "That '70s Show".

Etheridge shares custody of her twins, Johnnie Rose and Miller, with her previous partner Tammy Lyn Michaels. She also has two kids, Beckett and Bailey, with Julie Cypher.

California is now the 13th state in America to legalize same-sex marriage after it was affirmed by the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
