Sheldon and Amy's relationship has come a long way from their relationship contract days. The last season saw Sheldon kissing Amy on the lips and liking it. Now in the last episode, Amy finally got to hear from Sheldon that he loves her, too.

In "The Prom Equivalency," Sheldon says to Amy that he really thought that she looked pretty in the dress that she was wearing for the prom event, and that made him panic. He also tells her thank you for understanding him. Amy wants to tell him that she loves him. But before she can tell him, Sheldon tells her, "I love you, too." He also says that he has feelings for her that cannot be described in any other way. Sheldon tells Amy, "The only conclusion was love."

Speaking about the scene, Steve Molaro, showrunner of "The Big Bang Theory," said to TV Line, "I think there is always a certain amount of nervous tension in the best possible way when we do scenes like this." He said that the writers and the actors take "these moments very seriously" and they all want to "honour the characters and nail these moments in a way they deserve."

Molaro also said that Amy said "I love you" back multiple times after she calmed down. According to the showrunner, she "made it her Facebook status and then proceeded to tell everyone and anyone who would listen."

He did not reveal the next milestone for Amy and Sheldon on his checklist, saying that it "tough to say" and that he does not think of his characters in terms of a checklist. Molaro told TV Line that there is likely to be more milestones that they have not yet thought about, "beyond the bigger more obvious ones." He revealed that they realised that "I love you" scene was going to happen only when they were in the "middle of figuring out the prom story."

Speaking about whether Season 8 of "The Big Bang Theory" will feature sexual relationship between Sheldon and Amy, Molaro said, "I have no idea when that will be broached, but I have learned that if we're sweating and scared of a scene, that's usually a good sign to do it."
