Apple’s upcoming 4-inch iPhone (2016), dubbed the ‘iPhone 5se,’ has been in the news for several weeks, and is expected to be released at an Apple event scheduled for March 15.

The 4-inch iPhone 5se will sport a form factor similar to that of the iPhone 5s, but with improved specs, Ming-Chi Kuo, renowned KGI Securities analyst, stated in a release note to investors.

If the rumours are to be believed, Apple will launch an iPhone with a 4-inch screen after the iPhone 5s and 5c. The device is also speculated to be named the ‘iPhone 6c’.

The iPhone 5se (or iPhone 6c) will not be tagged as a flagship device and thus, will not include much hardware innovations like the current iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, reports Apple Insider.

The smartphone will imbibe features from previous models of the iPhone. One of the upgraded hardware specifications includes a 12-megapixel rear camera unit. The superior rear camera will reportedly come with support for Live Photos.

The iPhone 5se will also adopt the 2.5D cover glass that is present on the iPhone 6s, mentioned Kuo.

Ming-Chi Kuo has a very good track record for predicting Apple’s moves. Previously he also indicated that the new 4-inch iPhone will come packed with an NFC chip to support Apple Pay.

The speculated 4-inch iPhone 5se (or iPhone 6c) is tipped to sport an Apple A9 processor, 16GB of in-built storage and 2GB of RAM. However, there are contradictory speculations that the smartphone may sport comparatively lower end specs, including 1GB of RAM and Apple A8 CPU, reported Chinese site MyDrivers.

Marketed as a mid-range handset, the iPhone 5se will miss the 128GB in-built storage variant. The smartphone will be released with only two internal storage capacities, at 16GB and 64GB. The rumours mill furthermore suggests the Apple iPhone 5se will be launched with a US$450 (AU$627) price tag.

A recently leaked video (see below) published by M.I.C Gadget claims to display a model of the upcoming 4-inch iPhone. The design of the smartphone shown in the video resembles the 4.7-inch iPhone 6. The phone appears to showcase a similar camera and Touch ID fingerprint scanner placement.
