Russian President Vladimir Putin hired an attractive female interpreter during the G20 summit with former U.S. President Donald Trump to “distract” the latter, former White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham claims in a new book.

In excerpts of the memoir “I’ll Take Your Questions Now” published by The New York Times, Grisham wrote that then-White House Russia adviser Fiona Hill asked her “if I had noticed Putin’s translator, who was a very attractive brunette woman with long hair, a pretty face, and a wonderful figure.” Grisham went on to note that Hill “suspected the woman had been selected by Putin to specifically distract our president.”

Insider said it reviewed footage of the 2019 meeting in Osaka, Japan. The outlet noted that a translator beside Putin matched the description in the Times’ excerpts of Grisham’s upcoming book. In a video by Russian state-backed video agency, Ruptly, Trump can be seen watching as the woman translated Putin’s words during the summit.

The translator whom Putin brought during the summit was identified as Daria Boyarskaya by the New York Post. It said the 36-year-old was an amateur bachata and salsa dancer. She graduated from the St. Petersburg School of Conference Interpreting and Translation at the Herzen University in the Russian port city of St. Petersburg. East2West News reported that Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, denied Grisham’s claim, stating that “interpreters are provided by the foreign ministry at the request of the presidential administration,” adding that the Russian president “is not involved in the process,” according to the Post.

Grisham’s book also alleged that Trump told Putin at a meeting he would pretend to be tough with the Russian leader while they were in front of the cameras.

Trump’s relationship with Putin has been under constant scrutiny during the former’s time as U.S. president, including the 2016 election period, when  Russia was accused of interfering during the presidential campaigns to boost Trump's popularity. At that time, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s campaign was hacked as well as the Democratic National Committee and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

Trump rejected Grisham’s claims in a statement to the Times. He said Grisham “didn’t have what it takes and that was obvious from the beginning,” adding that the former White House press secretary became “very angry and bitter” after a breakup.

Grisham’s book is available on Amazon Kindle for $14.99, while the hardcover version, priced at $24.49, will be out Oct. 5.
