Filming of “Outlander” season 3 has reached the halfway mark. The cast and crew will soon be travelling to South Africa to continue the production. While the fans wait for the premiere in 2017, here is what we know so far.

[Spoiler alert]

The story will pickup from right where we left off in season 2 finale. Claire (Caitriona Balfe) is at Craigh na Dun, deciding whether or not to go back in time. In 1740s Jamie (Sam Heughan) is racing to join his brothers in arms in the Battle of Culloden.

The premiere episode will focus on the actual battle. The first few stills of the next season posted on Entertainment Weekly showed the faceoff between Jamie and Black Jack (Tobias Menzies). The British officer is expected to die in this encounter. When Claire was seen as an older woman Frank had passed away, so Menzies’ role will begin to decline as the story progresses.

Another actor who will be leaving after “Outlander” Season 3 is Romann Berrux (Fergus). César Domboy has been cast to play the older version of this character.

After the Battle of Culloden Jamie will move to Ardsmuir Prison, where he will meet Lord John Grey (David Berry). In the flash forward in Boston, Claire believes the love of his life died while fighting. The story will now look at how these two characters struggle to go through life without each other.

The pain will end when Jamie and Claire reunite at the Print Shop. The two characters will be together after the reunion, but the years of different experiences have turned them into different people. The story will then focus on how they explore each other and rekindle the fiery passions that made them fall in love in the first place.

Filming of “Outlander” Season 3 is currently ongoing in Scotland. The cast and crew will later shift to South Africa to film scenes of the Caribbean.
