Rebecca Ferguson was shocked when she learned how Zayn Malik branded their past relationship as a "wrong idea."

One of One Direction's boys, Zayn Malik, finally spoke about his break-up with singer Rebecca Ferguson and even referred to their romance as a "mistake." After they dated for about four months last year, Zayn gave details about his past relationship with Rebecca.

Zayn told New! Magazine last week that their relationship shouldn't have happened and that it ended quite badly.

"It shouldn't have happened. It was just a wrong idea from the start. It did end quite badly so we don't talk any more. We're not in touch at all," the heartthrob singer said last week.

With his statements, Rebecca was left shocked and stunned. This time, the former "X Factor" star gave her side to the magazine and added that she's not going to retaliate.

But although Rebecca was defending their past relationship, she refused to go in details about the reason of their break up.

"I'm not one to reveal big secrets about what's gone on in a relationship, and I think he was probably put up to this. I know him too well to think he'd say it deliberately. I won't talk about what went wrong between us but he knows what happened. And it is what it is," she said.

Surprisingly though, instead of being the bitter ex, she had nothing but praises to Zayn's current girlfriend, Perrie Edwards.

"I am a fan of the Little Mix girls and she seems lovely. I think they're good together," Rebecca admitted.

Rebecca also revealed that it was her who ended things with Zayn. And even though there were a lot of girls wishing to be in her place at that moment, she decided to bring him the bad news over a phone call.

"One day I just woke up and thought: "This isn't working for me. But when I meet a man I want to feel like he is with me 100 per cent. There shouldn't be any messing around... I'm not saying Zayn cheated," Ferguson revealed.
