Movies about princesses give film lovers a glimpse beyond the glitz and glamor of a royalty. Below are the top four movie princesses of all time.

Roman Holiday

The film is about a sheltered and rather bored princess who escapes her bodyguards while in Rome. While celebrating her newly found freedom, the princess falls in love with a journalist from America. Sadly, the black and white film did not depict whether the two ended up together. Actress Audrey Hepburn played the lead role in "Roman Holiday" released in 1953. Directed by Andy Tennant, it also stars Anjelica Huston and Dougray Scott who plays the role of Prince Henry.

Princess Diaries

Released in 2001, Princess Diaries tells the story of Mia Thermopolis, a geeky girl who finds out that her father is the Prince of Genovia. Starring Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, this film is one of the freshest princess stories ever gracing the silver screen.

The Prince & Me

Paige Morgan, a local farmer's daughter, meets a Danish exchange student whom she thinks is ignorant when it comes to chores. She and the Danish student fall in love without Paige knowing that he is a prince. The Danish paparazzi later track Prince Edvard and takes photos of them kissing. This is a relatively realistic take on what princely life is like and what it is like for him to fall in love with a regular girl. Like the film "Princess Diaries", "The Prince & Me" was later followed by other films that continue the story of Paige and Eddie. Julia Styles starred in the 2004 film.

Ever After

Drew Barrymore plays the role of a would-be princess in this drama retelling the Cinderella story. The 1998 film is yet to be topped by another retelling of the fairy tale. The film makes the abuse in Danielle's household very apparent and more dramatic than ever before.

If you live movies about princesses, you can also look for "Enchanted," "The Princess Bride," "The Prince and the Showgirl," "Princess Kaiulani," "Princess Mononoke," "A Princess for Christmas" and "Princess Caraboo."
