Australian comedienne, Rebel Wilson has defied a lot of things when she became a hit on American television. And another Aussie talent, Melissa Bergland is hailed as following her footsteps after landing a gig overseas.

Bergland is known best for her role in Seven’s “Winners & Losers” but the Aussie star has just nabbed a lead role in a film adaptation of a Lesley Crewe novel.

The feature film, “Relative Happiness,” is slated to begin shooting in North America next month. Bergland is expected to play the character about a 30-year old woman whose life has been rocked when two men came to her life. The Canadian production is based on the first novel by Crewe.

The Aussie star got the role after signing to a management outfit in the U.S., Untitled Entertainment. The Sydney Morning Herald said that Bergland has had a series of meetings in the U.S. in Aug. that paved way for her new role. The Seven star is still in the U.S. to date.

Her family from network Seven expressed delight for the break that came Bergland’s way. The star who plays “happy-go-lucky though needy Jenny Gross” is said to film “Relative Happiness” during break from Seven’s “Winners & Losers.”

The network released a statement, saying it is ''thrilled for Melissa. She is a fabulous member of the Winners & Losers cast and the Seven family. She will be a triumph in this role and we congratulate her on this success.''

Citing a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the SMH noted that Bergland may very well be Australia’s next “Rebel Wilson” in the U.S.

But Bergland is a star in her own right. She was nominated and won awards for outstanding new talent and most popular new female at high profile, Logie Awards.

The “Winners and Losers” star is represented by Mark Morrissey and Associates in Sydney, and attorney Adam Kaller at Hansen Jacobson.
