A new terrifying trailer for Alfonso Cuaron's latest sci-fi feature, Gravity, has been unleashed. Titled Detached, the trailer shows the space mission team panicking when space debris hits the shuttle.

Sandra Bullock is dangerously hurled around while still anchored from the one of the shuttle's parts. She detaches herself and plunges into the deep black void.

This is just one scene from the fascinating yet frightening sci-fi thriller from the director, his first offer after his 7-year hiatus from moviemaking. His last film was 2006's Children of Men.

Cuaron took four and a half years to finish Gravity, releasing Robert Downey Jr. who was first attached to the project. Bullock and George Clooney made the final cast.

The production requires pre-programming of the film before shooting because of the technology used. "We animated the whole film before. We could have released an animated version with the voices of Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. We watched it and we gave suggestions and if they had notes or ideas, then it was just about programming the whole thing," he said.

Bullock plays medical engineer Dr. Ryan Stone who is one her first Space Shuttle mission crew. She is accompanied by veteran astronaut Matt Kowalksy, played by Clooney, when their shuttle hits disaster and the two were left stranded in space.

We can expect more on what happens to the two stranded astronauts when the movie hits Australian theatres on Oct 3.
