Mercedes AMG speedster Lewis Hamilton went home with Sportsman of the Year honours after attending the GQ Men of the Year Awards 2014.

The 29-year-old strutted the red carpet alongside his girlfriend and pop star, Nicole Scherzinger, in London at the Royal Opera House.

"I want to receive this for my family and for my team. I've been very fortunate to be in F1 for eight years now and I'm extremely grateful," said the Englishman, after receiving the award.

Hamilton is currently trailing teammate and leader Nico Rosberg (202 points) by 11 points, whom he recently had a controversy with following a collision during a raceday, but pledged that he will do his best to capture his second championship.

"It's going to be a tough road from here, but championships have been won from much further back than I am now," he added.

"And I promise you I will be giving everything and more to win this for my team, for my family and for my fans."
