Earlier this year, Huawei, the popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer, released the Ascend P7. Now rumours are swirling that a successor model for the handset called Ascend P8 will make its debut in Jan. 2015 during the CES event.

Even though the specifications of the Ascend P8 have not been officially revealed, details about the handset have come out. The Ascend P8 will reportedly feature a 5.2-inch display screen that will support full HD resolution. It will also sport a 2.5D curved glass. PhoneArena claims it will be similar to the curved glass present on the Apple iPhone 6.

The Huawei Ascend P8 will be equipped with a metallic body along with a ceramic rear panel and buttons. According to GSMArena, the appeal of the Ascend P8 will be one of its major selling features as the P line of handsets from Huawei always sport an impressive design. Android Authority claims that the handset might also feature a fingerprint scanner or dual LED flash with a revamped camera design.

The Ascend P8 will be driven by a HiSlicon Kirin 930 chipset from Huawei and will feature a 16 nm FinFET octa-core processor. The processor is currently in its testing phase, and its mass production will take off in the coming year. The exact clocking speed of the processor is not known yet. PhoneArena claims that the Huawei Ascend P8 is speculated to be priced at CNY

2999, which is equivalent to $489. GSMArena says that the pricing is quite competitive, but the Chinese manufacturer has a tendency to roll out its smartphones with expensive price tag outside its home country.

The Huawei Ascend P7 is a dual-SIM handset that came out in June 2014. It has a 5-inch IPS LCD display that supports full HD resolution and 441 ppi. The handset is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 910T Cortex A9 quad-core processor that delivers a clocking speed of 1.8 GHz. It features Mali-450MP4 graphics and 2 GB RAM. The internal storage of the device is 16 GB. The other features of Ascend P7 include external storage support of up to 64 GB microSD, 13 MP main camera and 8 MP front-facing camera, Android v4.4.2 KitKat OS and 2500 mAh non-removable battery.
