In July 2013, there were rumours that the passionate and high-strung lovers at hit series, Homeland, Sgt. Nicholas Brody and CIA top agent, Carrie Mathison had been fighting on set. But the on-screen lovers seemed to be at home with each other even as Daines revealed Carrie’s “personal ticking bomb” and “great sweet spot.”

Speaking to Access Hollywood at the Television Critics Association Summer Tour in Beverly Hills on July 29, Claire revealed that Carrie’s disorder will come into play, largely in Season 3 of Showtime’s Homeland.

Carrie will be off her medication giving more tension and emotions in the upcoming season. Without so much details, Claire described Carrie’s mental health battles particularly in the first few episodes of Season 3.

“Carrie is always sitting on her own personal ticking bomb and it’s just an impossible dilemma because she is not great on the meds and she’s even worse off of them,” she said at the TCAST.

But she reiterated that that made Carrie’s character even more compelling as the CIA agent always seems to be on top of her game either way.

Claire added, “But there’s a really great sweet spot… in the middle of those two states that she’s always trying to land on where she’s… exceptionally high performing, and we get to enjoy her process of finding that balance.”

Precariousness of Claire’s character is apparent in Season 3.

“It’s pretty bleak in the beginning. She’s gone off her meds for all sorts of reasons which, I think, she believes strongly in,” the actress continued. “But it’s always a little precarious,” the first-time mom added.

The new teaser released by Showtime showed very emotional Carrie, even prompting Fox 21 president, Bert Salke to affirm more gripping storylines and sequences in the upcoming season.

“There are bigger developments character-wise this year than there have been. The best Homeland script that I've ever seen writing-wise was this year . . . And I think they're playing at that level," Salke was quoted as saying in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, noted in a separate IBTimes-AU report.

The first official trailer showed Carrie, and her non-stop crying with Saul Berenson played by Mandy Patinkin to her rescue. Brody has been wounded but before that he was seen taking a gun and left the room. His location remains uncertain but early spoilers claim that the war veteran seemed to have returned to the Middle East.

Homeland Season 3 kicks off on Showtime on Sept. 29, 2013, 9:00 p.m.
