Actress Cate Blanchett attended the premiere of her new movie “Cinderella” in Sydney on March 15. She hinted that the Australian adoption laws are not conducive. Revealing that they have adopted a baby girl, Cate said that she and her husband adopted Edith from America, according to E Online. The 45-year-old actress had remained tight-lipped about their new daughter from the time the couple were seen at the city airport with the kid.

Cate and her husband, Andrew Upton had made the news of their new baby public through their agent on March 6. Baby Edith Vivian Patricia Upton joins the family of five. Cate has three sons with her husband Dashiell, Roman and Ignatius. “There’s a lot of children out there that don’t have the good fortune of our biological children so it’s lovely to welcome a little girl. We’re besotted,” she said about their little daughter.

Earlier celebrity couple Hugh Jackaman and his wife Deborra-Lee Furness moved to the U.S. and adopted two children from the country due to Australia’s anti-adoption laws. Furness who is an adoption campaigner herself set up Adopt Change to make the process simple in Australia. Cate and her family will migrate to America at the end of this year once Andrew’s stint as the artistic director with the Sydney Theatre Company gets over.

Upton had earlier told Sydney Morning Herald that the entire family was looking forward to spending time together at one place. He added that their nine years in England were great and they loved it. But now they would move to America where he would pursue screen writing and Cate would have better opportunity in her film career.

Meanwhile, Cate who donned a Roksanda Ilincic dress to the red carpet of the Australian premier of the film has played the character of the evil stepmother in the fairytale. She said that Australia will always be home. The film has already garnered over $70 million beating Liam Nelson’s “Run All Night” at the box-office in the weekend. “Cinderella” also stars Richard Madden as Prince Charming and Helena Bonham Carter as the fairy godmother and will release in Australia on March 26.
