The mid-season finale of "The Blacklist" Season 2 was explosive, with two major players of the show dead. Both Fitch and Berlin were killed in episode 8 of the current season. Also, the final moments of the episode hinted that Tom and Red knew each other and it is not because of their common interest, Liz. There is a possibility that Tom may have worked for Red in the past or was working for him to unmask Red's unknown enemy, Berlin. After shooting Berlin, Red gave Tom an envelope full of cash and told him to never appear in Liz's life, again. Tom hinted that he knows a lot about Red but did not tell anything about him to Liz. It is likely that the audience will get to see him again sooner than expected and new details -- possibly shocking -- about his and Red's relationship may get revealed.

Jon Bokenkamp, creator of "The Blacklist," has told TV Line that the question about Red and Tom's relationship will be answered. He also said that Liz is not aware about Tom's past that involves Red. This does not come as a surprise, as Liz does not know much about the real Tom. The revelation about Red and Tom's relationship may provide some clues about Red's game. However, the question about how Red and Liz are related is not expected to be answered soon.

Speaking about Red and Tom's relationship storyline, Bokenkamp said to TV Line, "We will continue to tell that story. We don't dive right into it in the Super Bowl episode, but that does start to bubble up later in the back half of the season."

"The Blacklist" Season 2 returns on Feb. 01, 2015, with episode 9. The episode will be aired on Sunday after Super Bowl. After the Sunday night episode, the series will move to Thursday nights. Ron Perlman has been roped in to guest star in Super Bowl Sunday episode. He has been cast as a ruthless, meticulous thief called Luther Braxton. It will be Red versus Braxton in the upcoming episode.
