Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut is pushing the Australian National Team to get the service of Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving, who is apparently born in the 'Land Down Under'.

Bogut, who played a number of times for the Australian National Basketball team, is lobbying Basketball Australia to convince the former first overall pick to play with them for the upcoming Rio Olympics in 2016.

The Aussie has a couple of players playing in the NBA - Andrew Bogut and Pat Mills - and has a budding guard in Dante Exum, but the inclusion of Irving would certainly catapult the squad into contention and possibly give the United States some trouble in international basketball tournaments.

"We need to give him the keys to the city if that's what it takes," Bogut told the Age Sports. "I've made it clear to him we would love him to play, but the people running the game need to get involved."

The Boomers haven't landed a podium finish in the Olympic Games after 13 appearances in the quadrennial sporting event. But that could change if they manage to form a nice core of Irving, Bogut and Exum.

Irving and Bogut are both former first overall picks in the NBA Draft, with Kyrie going no.1 in 2011 and Andrew in 2005.
