The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update finally came for the LG Optimus G and HTC One Mini. The LG Optimus G is the latest gen LG phablet, the first phablet next to LG Optimus G Pro and the LG Optimus G Pro 2.

The LG Optimus G and HTC One Mini are getting the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update. The LG Optimus G is the previous gen LG phablet, the first in a line that now includes the LG Optimus G Pro and the LG Optimus G Pro 2. LG faced some criticism for the fact that many of its former flagships usually get only one major update. Now, it appears that LG has been working on the problem and the LG Optimus G will jump from Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to Android 4.4.2 KitKat. This is great news and it certainly does make devices like the recently launched LG Optimus G Pro 2, LG G Flex, LG G2 and upcoming LG G3 more appealing.

The LG Optimus G Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is particularly important because of how long it has taken to get it. The LG Optimus G was the device that the Nexus 4 is based on back in November 2012. The fact that it languished without Android updates and was running on Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and then to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean in March 2014 was fairly distressing. With the LG Optimus G getting the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update now, when Android 4.4.3 KitKat is about to come out, may not feel as good, but its better late than never. The confirmation that the LG Optimus G is getting the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update comes from the French carrier SFR. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is expected to arrive in the summer in Europe. On the other hand, the U.S. release date for the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the LG Optimus G is currently unknown.

The HTC One Mini is also getting the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update and in its case it's happening right now. The HTC One Mini Android 4.4.2 KitKat update is rolling out OTA for AT&T owners of the HTC One Mini. The Android 4.4.2 KitKat update for the HTC One Mini includes Sense 5.5 and the new Blinkfeed. We also anticipate that the HTC One Mini will eventually get Sense 6 and the revamped Blinkfeed which the new HTC One M8 runs. To get the update OTA go to Settings > Software updates to download Android 4.4.2 KitKat.
