Andre Berto’s trainer, Virgil Hunter, recently claimed that his ward has a chance of a lifetime in facing Floyd Mayweather Jr., the number one pound-for-pound boxer in the world. The veteran trainer added that he would be ecstatic if Berto pulls off the upset against his compatriot.

“We have a unique opportunity right in front of us. We have a chance at history and to cement a legacy for my fighter,” Virgil Hunter, Berto’s trainer said via boxingnewsonline.net. “If [Berto] wins this fight, you’ll see me jumping up and down and it will be hard to compose myself. I’m usually pretty composed, but you might see me jump up and fall out of the ring and hit my head or something.”

Hunter added that whatever is the result of the Mayweather-Berto fight, he sees Mayweather going down as one of the best fighters in the history of the sport. Aside from Ward, whom he has known since the boxer was nine years old, Hunter has handled the likes of Amir Khan, Brandon Gonzales, Alfredo Angulo, Karim Mayfield and Abner Mares, among others.

Mayweather has been criticised by many for picking Berto for what could be the final fight in his career, but Hunter believes that they have “everything to lose” in the fight against Mayweather, and that Berto has to “want it more” for a chance to win against the boxing champ.

The Mayweather-Berto fight is scheduled on Sept. 19, 2015 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
