Stan Wawrinka will continue his quest to win a third grand slam trophy when he takes on Donald Young in the fourth round of the 2015 US Open. It will be the third encounter for both players on tour.

Wawrinka advanced at Flushing Meadows after scoring straight-sets victory over unseeded Belgian Ruben Bemelmans 6-3 7-6 6-4. The Swiss has shown the form that saw him win an Australian Open last year and Roland Garros trophy this season.

Wawrinka has yet to drop a set in the tournament, although he had already played five tiebreak sets. Only unseeded Korean Chung Hyeon in the second round made Wawrinka work a little bit harder with all three sets going into tiebreaks. In all his previous matches, Wawrinka has fired 44 aces, 26 of which were during his second-round clash with Chung. He struck 156 winners and had 98 unforced errors.

Meanwhile, Young, one of the last two Americans standing in the tournament, upset 22nd seed Viktor Troicki in five sets 4-6 0-6 7-6 6-2 6-4 to move in the last 16. Young, a two-time junior grand slam champion, has never been able to win a match from two sets down before the US Open, but he has been able to do so when he upset No. 11 seed Gilles Simon and No. 22 seed Troicki. Young’s fellow countryman John Isner will play Roger Federer for a place in the quarterfinal.

Wawrinka will be Young’s biggest challenge in the tournament so far. He fired 15 aces and had 132 winners in his previous matches. This will be Young’s second fourth round US Open trip. He also made the last 16 at the 2011 US Open. The Chicago native has never gone past the fourth round of a grand slam event.

If Young advances, it will be his first-ever grand slam quarterfinal appearance, but if Wawrinka survives Young in front of the American’s home crowd, it will mark the Swiss’ third US Open quarterfinal appearance (2010 and 2014). This will be the third meeting for both players. Wawrinka won their 2011 match 6-7(5) 7-6(2) 6-2 at the Association of Tennis Professionals Masters 1000 event in Shanghai. Young beat Wawrinka in the second round of the 2011 US Open 7-6(7) 3-6 2-6 6-3 7-6(1).
