The New York Jets are picking sixth overall in the upcoming 2015 rookie draft of the National Football League, or NFL, but are planning to host quarterback prospect Jameis Winston for a private workout reports Ian Rapoport, NFL Media Insider for the league’s official website.

All signs point to Winston getting drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the top overall pick in the annual rookie selection but the draft may bring in surprises like teams, including the Jets, moving up in the 2015 NFL Draft, which will be held from April 30 to May 2, 2015 at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago, Illinois.

The Jets went 4-12 in the 2014 regular season to come away with one of the worst records in the league but the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans both ended up with an even worse 2-14 records to earn the top two picks in the draft. Both the Bucs and Titans already hosted Winston in private workouts earlier in the 2015 offseason.

Also picking high in the draft are the Jacksonville Jaguars with the third pick, Oakland Raiders with the fourth and Washington Redskins with the fifth pick. The Chicago Bears, Atlanta Falcons, New York Giants and St. Louis Rams pick from seventh to tenth although Winston is not expected to drop that low in the rookie selection.

The 21 year old Winston played for the Florida State University Seminoles for the past two years when he had a total of 7,964 passing yards on 562 of 851 completions, or 66.0% completion rate, with 65 touchdowns plus 7 rushing touchdowns.

Compared to Marcus Mariota, another quarterback prospect, Winston is deemed as the more “NFL-ready” between the two top QBs. The Winston vs. Mariota debate is one of top storylines for the draft as both are former Heisman Trophy winners. Winston won the award in 2013 and Mariota won in 2014. It remains to be seen if one or both will be available for the Jets' sixth overall pick.
