A perfect 9-0 start into the 2013-2014 NFL regular season and still the Kansas City Chiefs have a lot of doubters—mainly because of an apparent marshmallow schedule on their way to the immaculate record.

The Andy Reid-led team has a chance to shut up those same critics when they face a top-quality team in the Denver Broncos featuring star quarterback Peyton Manning, who’s in a record-breaking romp in 2013.

The Chiefs have nine wins in as many games but the opponents’ combined record is at 33-57 or just with a 58.9 winning percentage. However, they did get most of those wins in dominating fashion averaging 12.2 points margin of victory.

Kansas City ranks 6th in pass defense limiting the opposition to 208.3 passing yards per game and 12th in rushing yards with 119.0 rush yards per outing.

Probably overshadowed by the record-breaking Manning season, the Broncos’ schedule actually doesn’t look as tough; they’ve beaten teams with a joint record of 30-49 or a 61.2 winning percentage—not so much better than the Chiefs’ schedule.

According to teamrankings.com, Kansas City has a strength of schedule rating of 22.1 (32nd in the NFL) and Denver has 23.9 (28th).

Manning, who is reportedly nursing a high ankle sprain but will suit up against the undefeated Chiefs, is on his way to breaking regular season records for total touchdowns (50 by Tom Brady) and total passing yards (5,476 by Drew Brees).

The 37-year-old currently has 3,249 passing yards and 33 touchdowns with seven games left in the regular season.

Even the sportsbooks do not have much respect for the Chiefs; they are priced as 2.8 underdogs to win the game and are pegged at +7.5 against the spread by the bookies.
