Rory McIlroy got out of a very public relationship last XXX and promptly found his game over the weekend to win the BMW European PGA Championship on Sunday at the Wentworth golf course in Virginia Water, England.

The two-time golf major titlist announced his separation with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki last Wednesday just days after their wedding invitation was sent out.

“There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people. The problem is mine. The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn't ready for all that marriage entails,” McIlroy said in a statement at that time.

This Irishman was ready however to win more trophies in his golf career. He shot 6-under-par 66 coming back down from sevens during the last round and won by a single stroke for an overall 14-under 274.

Shane Lowry finished second, Thomas Bjorn and Luke Donald tied for third place. Stephen Gallacher completed the top five.

“I guess when I got inside the ropes this week, it was a little bit of a release, and I was on my own and doing what I do best, which is playing golf, and that sort of gave me four or five hours of serenity or sanctuary or whatever you want to call it,” McIlroy said who won his 12th PGA title.

Win some, lose some for McIlroy, who lost a fiancée but won $1,029,158 in prize money.
