"The Vampire Diaries" and "The Originals" are both CW network's hit TV series but one appears to be surpassing the other when it comes to TV ratings or fans' viewing preference. In the E! Online's Fall TV Obsession tournament, "The Originals" came out victorious and executive producer Julie Plec gave her reaction over the results.

It appears the fans are more hooked to see the temperamental Original hybrid Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan) deal with his impending fatherhood than the doppelgangers or Augustine vampires in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 5.

"In the final round it was a super close race to the finish line with only a 2.7 percent difference in vote!" the E! Online report reads. As for the TV ratings, the Hollywood Reporter claims "The Originals" also gives the CW network a strong night together with "Supernatural" Season 9.

The report reads: "The CW, which saw its entire lineup hold steady in the adults 18-49 demo, also posted its most-watched Tuesday in more than five years with the winter finales of The Originals and Supernatural. The network averaged a 1.1 rating with adults 18-49 and 2.4 million viewers -- with its Vampire Diaries spinoff posting its most-watched episode to date."

Executive producer and creator Julie Plec expressed her happiness and excitement on the success of "The Originals." Ms Plec stated: "It's a huge validation to the whole team at The Originals who are trying to do right by the mothership of TVD, and tell mini-movies each week. The show has more adult themes and is driven less by romance and more by power struggles, betrayals, and as Klaus would say 'some dodgy behavior'."

Julie Plec further expressed her gratitude to the viewers who accepted the spin-off series just like when they accepted and showed support for "The Vampire Diaries." The executive producer shared: "We had no idea if [The Originals] would catch on with the same fervor and intensity as our fandom treats TVD. In the end, the fandom is all from the same family, so we appreciate their support as always."

"The Originals" is currently on a holiday break and when the TV series return in 2014, Julie Plec hinted that January and February will offer viewers some big episodes. "A big move in the witch community, a life-altering choice made for Davina and an attempt to complete the Harvest," Ms Plec teased.
