American automotive and energy storage giant Tesla Motors Inc. has introduced its solar battery storage product in the Australian market, allowing the nation’s largest power and gas retailer Origin Energy to act as one of its distributors.

Besides Australia, Tesla has also launched the home battery in Germany, where around 30 percent of energy is gathered from renewable sources. After the United States, only the two countries have been given a chance to sell Powerwall battery to cut power bills and help customers store solar energy for later use.

Australia’s capacity of highest per capita penetration of rooftop solar technology seems to be one of the reasons the American company chose the nation as one of the sources of solar battery storage products. Tesla launched the green power system in May to allow customers to recharge electric batteries using the Powerwall cell.

“Tesla Energy is working with solar installers, electricity retailers and network providers to sell Powerwall in Australia. This allows for customer choice and great reach to all interested households,” Reuters quoted Tesla spokesman Heath Walker as saying.

Origin Energy was the first power organisation that aided international business initiative on climate change in October. This take towards maintaining the environmental policy made it the choice of Tesla for distributing the eco-friendly energy saving product.

The retailer’s CEO Frank Calabria said that the company would assemble the solar battery storage product with solar panels from China’s Trina Solar Ltd. along with inverters from Israel’s SolarEdge Technologies and form a “turnkey home energy solution.” Calabria said that Powerwall will be available for installation in February 2016.

Australia’s solar power installer Natural Solar was the initial choice of Tesla. Managing Director of the company, Chris Williams, said that this would be an opportunity to educate people on eco-friendly technology. It will be easier in the case of Australians as they are among the “early adopters of renewable energy technology.”
