She thought she was on a trip to celebrate his birthday. But little did British show jumping rider, Ellen Whitaker knew that she was walking up the aisle with upcoming 'Superman' star, British hunk, Henry Cavill.

Sorry ladies, your Superhero is off the market.

Whitaker shared in an interview with Belfast Telegraph how she was taken aback when Cavill proposed to her during their recent trip to Hollywood in what she thought was to celebrate his birthday. Cavill turns 28 on Mary 5, Thursday.

"I couldn't believe it when he asked me to marry him," Whitaker was quoted as saying by the Belfast Telegraph.

She added: "I thought we were there to celebrate his birthday. It was such a surprise and I am so happy."

Cavill’s representative confirms the engagement according to People.com. The magazine also said that the Superman star had apparently asked permission from Ellen’s father, Steven Whitaker.

The actor popped the question before he hit the screen for his big role in Superman, which is set to be released in December 2012. The British actor who appeared in a supporting role as Melo in “Tristan and Isolde” had his first starring role in Showtime’s “The Tudors”.
