The fifth season of “Person of Interest,” or “POI,” on CBS will reportedly feature only 13 episodes, unlike the previous seasons which had 22 or 23 episodes. However, fans should not be disappointed because the shorter run may lead to a recharged plotline, cast and crew.

“POI” star Michael Emerson, who plays Harold Finch, told TV Line that letting Season 5 span only 13 episodes can actually benefit the cast and crew. The reduced workload may reportedly renew the energies and spirits of the people behind its production.

Executive producer Greg Plageman also said that the finale of Season 5 will possibly be the best series finale on the show. Plageman said that he already has an idea on how the last moments of the series will happen, although he believes that there are still a lot of tales to tell. There is no confirmation yet whether a sixth season will follow.

Currently, the writers of Season 5 are working on how “The Machine” will be resurrected and how Harold Finch will deal with its new form.

In “POI,” Finch is a billionaire tech genius who created “The Machine,” an artificial intelligence that can predict crimes before it occurs. The show premiered on Sept. 22, 2011 and also featured John Reese (Jim Caviezel) and various cast members who collaborated to stop various types of crimes.

Emerson is currently filming the fifth season, which will premiere mid-season in 2016. The previous seasons ran for 22 to 23 episodes, leading many to believe that Season 5 will be the last one with only 13 episodes in the plan. Emerson said that it could be a sign of the show’s end, but it may also be an opportunity to feature a follow-up season outside of television.

The actor said that they are shooting the fourth episode at the moment and that he actually does not know how the story unfolds until he has the script in his hands. He said that it is difficult for the writers to come up with a finale, spanning only 13 episodes, especially when they are not sure if it is actually the end, The Observer reports.

In the meantime, fans of “POI” can watch all episodes from the past seasons on WGN America and Netflix, IndieWire writes.
