Four members of the boy band One Direction had the girls swooning when they performed their new song "Steal My Girl" from their fourth album, which is appropriately titled "Four." The live performance was for the Today Show at the Universal Orlando Resort. Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles turned up for this fan concert, triggering speculations about why Zayn Malik is missing. The fans expressed their concern for the young singer on Twitter and later they were busy trolling Today Show host Matt Lauer.

After the performance, Lauer tried solving the mystery behind Zayn's absence. He asked the four band mates where their fifth member was. According to Hollywood Life, Liam said that Zayn is down with a "tummy bug" and that he is "not very well." He also said that they found out about Zayn not being well only that morning. "We're really sad and he is as well, that he can't be here for our album release," Liam said.

Lauer, however, was not satisfied with the reason provided and implied that Zayn may have missed the fan concert due to substance abuse issue. Hollywood Life has quoted Lauer as saying, ""There have been rumours of substance abuse." Liam was quick to reply that it is just "stomach bug" and that Zayn is at home as he has got to rest. He also added that they are waiting for Zayn's phone call.

The suggestion of drug abuse made the Twitter explode, with comments from angry fans againt Today Show host. According to reports, Zayn, 21, is also upset that Lauer asked a question that implied that he did not fly in with his band mates because of alleged substance abuse issue, and not due to some minor illness.

In an interview with The Sun, Zayn said, 'I'm really angry and upset by what was said on The Today Show. I was really ill at the weekend. That's why I couldn't fly to America," according to Daily Mail.

All the speculations and rumours have now been put to rest, as Zayn joined his band mates for another performance in Orlando on Tuesday, Nov. 18. According to reports all the five members of One Direction are filming a Christmas Special for NBC.
