The New York Jets got off slightly for their alleged tampering before cornerback Darrelle Revis’ move from the New England Patriots. They have been fined a $100,000 for owner Woody Johnson’s comments on Revis at the time.

“Darrelle is a great player and if I thought I could have gotten Darrelle for that, I probably would've taken him. And it was our best judgment to do what we did. Darrelle's a great player -- I'd love for Darrelle to come back," Johnson said back in December, as per the NFL website.

Revis was yet to hit free agency officially at the time and the New England Patriots soon filed tampering charges against the Jets owner. The Jets could have also been docked a draft pick for the comments but the league settled for the fine.

The Jets also filed a tampering case against the Patriots in retaliation after owner Robert Kraft apologized to Patriots fans for Revis’ move back to the Jets. The NFL did not punish Kraft for his comments.

"We thought we made a very competitive offer, and I speak as a fan of the New England Patriots, we wanted to keep him, we wanted him in our system. And we have certain disciplines. We had hoped it worked out. It didn't. He's a great player. The fan in me wishes he were still with us," Kraft had said the time, as per the league website

Revis played six years for the Jets after they drafted him in 2007, giving up their first, second and fifth round picks to move up the order and pick him up. He was then traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers ahead of the 2013 season. Revis was then put on the trading block as he was owed $16 million for the 2014 season, but after trades failed to materialize, he was released by the Bucs and picked up by the Patriots almost immediately. He returned to the Jets after playing just one season for the Patriots in which they won the Super Bowl. The 29 year old signed a five year, $70 million contracts with New York in March.
