Same-sex marriage in Australia plebiscite blocked by Senate

The Senate has killed Australia’s planned same-sex plebiscite, which would have been held in February. On Monday, the proposal was voted down in the Upper House 33 to 29, effectively ending more than a year of debate about the plebiscite.

DFAT: Consular cases in Australia up 25%, 1.5k Australians arrested overseas

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has revealed that a total of 1551 Australians were arrested overseas in 2015-2016 for offences including drugs, fraud and assault.  The figures indicated that there was an increase of 23 percent from the department's previous records.

11-month-old baby girl seriously injured after falling from cot, police investigates

An 11-month-old girl was found unconscious on the floor at her home in Lithgow. Triple-0 receive a call that the baby girl fell from a cot. Paramedics treated her before she was flown to the Lithgow hospital. Then she was transferred through an airlift to the Children's Hospital at Westmead, Sydney, where she received a surgery.

Hinchliffe rules out fare hike to fund Cross River Rail construction

Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe has put to rest commuters’ anxiety over a possible fare increase to raise funding for the $5.2 billion Cross River Rail project. During a budget hearing Tuesday , Hinchliffe ruled out fare hike as among the potential sources of funding for the construction of a 10.2-kilometre rail that links Dutton Park to Bowen Hills in Brisbane.
