NBA Trade News: Arron Afflalo Targeted By Thunder, Kings, Bulls and Clippers

With the National Basketball Association, or NBA, Trade Deadline fast approaching, most title contenders are aiming to net a player or players that will help them in time for the NBA Playoffs. Four teams are reportedly active on the trade front and targeting Denver Nuggets’ shooting guard Arron Afllalo.
According to Ramona Shelburne, a senior writer of ESPN.com, the Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings and Oklahoma City Thunder out West are interested in Afflalo’s services as well as the Chicago Bulls from the East. Out of the four, the Clippers and Bulls are the teams currently in the playoff picture although the Thunder, who are gaining ground in the conference and Kings still have a chance to enter the postseason. Shelburne posted the update on her Twitter account:
No serious talks yet for Arron Afflalo, but word is OKC, Kings, Bulls, Clippers have discussed. Would be an interesting add for a contender

Afflalo is a perfect 3-and-D guy for any contender; 3-and-D is a term used for a player who has good defensive skills and good three-point shooting— two facets of the game that is highly-valued in today’s NBA. Afflalo has shown he can be that type of player during his stint with the Detroit Pistons (2007 to 2009), Denver Nuggets (2009 to 2012 and 2014 to present) and the Orlando Magic (2012 to 2014).
Afflalo signed a 5-year contract with the Nuggets back in 2010 worth over $36 million with an average annual salary of roughly $7.3M— a friendly contract for any team considering the skill set he brings. If the Nuggets are serious in dealing away Afflalo, the franchise may be looking into acquiring future picks and young prospects.
Among the four teams listed by Shelburne, the Thunder appears to have the upper-hand as they can offer picks and young guys including the likes of Reggie Jackson and Jeremy Lamb. The Kings also have an outside shot of acquiring the veteran shooter and can offer rookie Nik Stauskas among others. The NBA Trade Deadline is on Thursday, Feb. 19.
