The Moto G Android 4.4.4 KitKat update for the Google Play Edition has now arrived and Moto G Google Play Edition owners will be happy to know that the most up-to-date version of the Android update that they have been waiting for is finally here.

The Moto G Google Play Edition is skipping ahead from Android 4.4.2 KitKat to Android 4.4.4, which comes hardly as a surprise since the Motorola DROID Maxx, Ultra and Mini are doing the same thing. The Android 4.4.3 was released a few weeks back and then the Android 4.4.4 came out to fix a number of security exploits in Android 4.4.3, so it is definitely a necessary update.

Interestingly, the Moto G Google Play Edition was missed out when other Google Play Edition and Nexus devices received the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update, not to mention that the Android 4.4.3 KitKat also rolled out to the Moto G. For whatever reason, the phone never received the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update that most other Nexus and Google Play edition devices received. As such, it is good to hear that the Moto G Google Play Edition is now having the update, although the majority of Google Play Edition and Nexus devices have already received the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update.

The Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is a sizable update at 161MB, which is not surprising because it is the first version of the device's update since it was released early in January with Android 4.4.2 KitKat.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat update comes with incremental improvements in stability, performance and security as well as a number of bug fixes.

The update is available over-the-air and it brings the device to build number to KOT49H, from KTU8P4. However, if you are not getting an immediate prompt to update, you can click Android 4.4.2 - Build KOT49H to 4.4.4 - Build KTU84P. For rooted Moto G Google Play Edition devices, it needs to be re-rooted after installation of the update.
