The Microsoft Lumia 950 is a feature-rich flagship smartphone. It was announced at the beginning of this month and will soon be made available for purchase across the world.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 is an unreleased flagship from the Chinese firm expected to launch soon with monstrous specs and features.

The Xiaomi Mi 4 was released in July 2014. The Mi 5 will be launched as its successor. Here is a comparison between the Microsoft Lumia 950 and the Xiaomi Mi 5 based on the purported specifications, features, price and release date of the latter.

Design and Display

The Lumia 950 that sports a polycarbonate body has a thickness of 8.2 mm and measures 145 mm x 73 mm. The dimensions of the unreleased Xiaomi Mi 5 aren’t yet known. The Mi 5 is expected to be slimmer than the Mi 4 and should sport a premium build.

The 5.2-inch display of the Lumia 950 produces Quad HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. Some rumours suggest the Xiaomi Mi 5 will feature a 5.3-inch Quad HD screen whereas other sources claim it will house a full 5.2-inch HD screen.

Processor and Storage

Under the hood of the Lumia 950 is the Snapdragon 808 SoC that includes a hexa-core processor. It works at a speed of 1.8 GHz. The SoC is accompanied by 3 GB of RAM. The manufacturer has included 32 GB inbuilt storage on the device. Users can add up to 200 GB of microSD card on the Lumia 950.

Rumours have it the Snapdragon 820 will be present inside the Xiaomi Mi 5. The 64-bit octa-core CPU includes quad cores working at 2.2 GHz and the remaining quad cores working at 1.8 GHz.

The new chipset will be coupled by 4 GB of RAM. It’s expected to feature an inbuilt storage of 64 GB. Like the predecessor handset, it may not include a microSD card slot.

Camera and Other Features

The Lumia 950 has a 20 MP camera on its rear that’s enabled with Optical Image Stabilization. The front-facing camera is a 5 MP. The Windows 10 Mobile powered device supports iris scanning for biometric authentication and Continuum for using the handset as a full-fledged PC by connecting it to a docking station.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 could come with a 16 MP rear camera and an 8 MP frontal camera. It will either arrive with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop or Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

It may become the first smartphone to arrive with 3D fingerprint technology from Qualcomm, Phone Arena reported. The Xiaomi Mi 5 is likely to arrive with a USB Type-C port, a feature also available on the Lumia 950.

Battery, Price and Release Date

The Microsoft Lumia 950 is packed with a 3,000 mAh replaceable battery. According to Win Beta, it’s priced at AU$1,099 and is likely to be available for purchase next month.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 powered by an 3,030 mAh battery is expected to launch with a price tag of 1,999 Yuan (AU$433) for the base model in China, Mobi Picker reported. Speculations indicate the handset will arrive with the new SoC early next year.
