A 17-year-old Michigan woman is in trouble now with the law and her family. The young woman baked brownies laced with marijuana and just left it around, thinking no one will touch it.

Unfortunately for the young lady, her 58-year-old father discovered and ate the brownies and thought he was having a stroke. He called 911 for assistance, and firefighters and the police brought him to St Joseph’s Hospital in Pontiac, Michigan, Fox reports.

Good thing the father did not eat all the baked goodies, otherwise there would be no evidence from the leftover. The daughter admitted adding weed to the ingredients. The police filed charges against the woman.

“She’s not going to get it light,” the New York Daily New quotes Oakland County Undersheriff Mike McCabe.

Only medical use of marijuana is legal in Michigan. Otherwise, possession of cannabis is a misdemeanor that could send the offender to jail for one year, in addition to paying a fine of $2,000, according to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

The man is lucky because he was discharged from the hospital and now recovering. ABC reports that a Colorado woman died after eating legal pot candy, while a Wyoming college student jumped to his death from a hotel balcony in Denver after eating marijuana cookie.

Al Bronstein, the medical director of the Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Center, said there is insufficient research on the effects of edible marijuana but said it is too risky.

He explains, “What we’re seeing with edibles is that the effect is delayed for approximately 30 minutes, depending on the person. People get impatient for the effect and will take more and then the symptoms are more pronounced than what they were expecting.”
