The Lumia 950 XL is the newest flagship smartphone from Microsoft and it’s taking on popular phablets the likes of the Galaxy Note 5 and the iPhone 6S Plus. The Windows 10 Mobile powered Lumia 950 XL comes with unique features like Continuum, USB Type-C port, iris scanner and more.

The Apple iPhone 6S Plus announced last month is one of the most desired smartphones of 2015. By comparing the specifications, features and pricing of both the devices, one can understand which handset is good for productivity and user experience:

Design and Display

The Microsoft Lumia 950 XL that wears a polycarbonate chassis measures 151.9 mm x 78.4 mm x 8.1 mm and weighs 165 grams. It’s only available in two colours: black and white. On the other hand, the metal-clad iPhone 6S Plus is a bigger, slimmer device than the Lumia 950 XL as it measures 158.2 mm x 77.9 mm x 7.3 mm. It weighs 192 grams and is available in colour variants like rose gold, space gray, gold, and silver.

The Lumia 950 XL features a larger 5.7-inch AMOLED display that supports Quad HD resolution. The 5.5-inch iPS LCD display of the iPhone 6S Plus supports full HD resolution. The 3D Touch feature of the device makes it possible to distinguish between harder and lighter taps on the screen.

Chipset, Storage and RAM

The Snapdragon 810 SoC is present under the hood of the Lumia phablet. It’s 2.0 GHz octa-core CPU is assisted by 3 GB of RAM. The external storage allows users to add a max of up to 200 GB microSD card. The internal storage provided on the handset is 32 GB.

The dual-core processor of the Apple A9 that clocks at 1.8 GHz powers up the iPhone 6S Plus along with 2 GB of RAM. Like the predecessor model, it lacks a microSD slot. The new phablet from the Cupertino company, however, is available in 16 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB storage. options.

Camera and Additional Features

The PureView technology powered 20 MP is placed on the backside of the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL. It’s coupled with features like OIS and triple LED flash. The iPhone 6S Plus comes with an upgraded 12 MP rear camera supported by dual-LED flash.

Both handsets feature a front-facing 5 MP camera. For illuminating the subject while shooting photos from the selfie camera, the display of the Apple iPhone 6S Plus blinks up to three times to function as a camera flash.

When the Lumia 950 XL, a monitor, a keyboard and mouse connected to the Microsoft Display dock allows users to enjoy full PC experience on the larger screen, Phone Arena reported. For biometric recognition, Microsoft added an iris scanner on the Lumia 950 XL. Some of the other features available include wireless charging and a USB Type-C port. The iPhone 6S Plus features a fingerprint scanner buried under the physical Home button.

Battery and Price

The Lumia 950 XL is packed with a massive removable 3,340 mAh battery. The unlocked model will be released with a price tag of $649 (AU$904).

The Apple iPhone 6S Plus features a non-removable battery of 2,750 mAh. The unlocked iPhone 6S Plus with 16 GB and 64 GB variants are available with respective pricing of AU$1079 and AU$1229.
