Desperate to protect whatever little they have left against the radical and blood-hungry ISIS, a female member of the Kurdish military has willingly volunteered herself to be their group's suicide bomber as fighting escalated for the Syrian town of Kobani. She was a mother of two and her name was Arin Mirkan. She was believed to be in her 20s.

The Syria Observatory for Human Rights told the Independent Mirkan was a commander in the Kurdish People's Protection Unit, known as the YPG. YPG is believed to have over 10,000 female fighters fighting in the battles against the ISIS.

Portal dailysabah.com, citing the YPG, said the soldier-mother's real name in Kurdish was Dilar Gencxemis, but she went under the nom-de-guerre of Arin Mirkan. She comes from Afrin, a town in the Aleppo province of northern Syria, just south of the Turkish border.

#ArinMirkan had become a popular hashtag on Twitter.

Rami Abdurrahman, founder and director of the Syria Observatory for Human Rights, said they have yet to confirm the exact number of ISIS militants killed by Mirkan's attack. They have received initial reports that at least 27 ISIS fighters died in that Sunday clash.

A press release from the People's Defence Unit has suggested all their fighters would willingly sacrifice their lives if only to ensure the defeat of the advancing terror group from the key border town.

"As a result of remarkable resistance by our units on the axes of the city, repelling the invading attacks, 15 of our comrades martyred in action after facing the mercenaries with all the strength," the Kurdish fighters said. It commended "valiant comrade Arin" who performed "a fedai action and kill dozens of ISIS mercenaries and stop their advance."

It said the strong will and determination that Mirkan showed will be "the spirit of resistance in the hearts of all our combatants of the People's Defence Units and Women's Defense Units."

"If necessary, all our fighters will be comrade Arin and shall not allow the mercenaries reach their wishes at whatever cost."
