Kanye West is serious about running for President of the United States of America in 2020. This is what his wife, reality star, Kim Kardashian West, revealed to Ellen Degeneres on Wednesday. She also said that she was as surprised as the rest of the world when West made the live announcement.

“That was news to me… That wasn’t a discussion in our household,” Kardashian West told Degeneres. The host then joked that maybe West wasn’t serious about his presidential bid. After all, he also mentioned during the same speech at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards that he had just smoked some weed.

“I believe he is serious, and I know that he—if he puts his mind to something, he’ll do his best,” assured Kardashian West. In the interview, she also admitted that it is quite a big announcement to drop on national television without talking to one’s wife first. However, she has reportedly taken it in stride and is fascinated by all the buzz that has been surrounding West and his possible journey to the White House.  [scroll down for video]

Kardashian West and Degeneres then decided to talk about the possibility of moving into the White House. Among Kardashian West's concerns is reportedly the renovation and redecoration plans that West might have. West is notoriously picky with interiors, and their Calabasas mansion is currently still undergoing remodelling two years after they bought it.

West made the surprising announcement that he intends to go for the Oval Office during his acceptance speech at the 2015 MTV VMAs. Singer Taylor Swift presented him with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. After talking about a number of other topics, West ended his speech with the big candidacy bombshell.
