Before Hugh Jackman became Wolverine, he has been a talented, singer-actor who first made his name on stage. He has received accolades for his appearances in theatre plays including “The Boy from Oz,” “A Steady Rain,” and “Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway in New York.”

Fans are supposed to see the “Prisoners” actor for the much-talked about Houdini musical which is set to kick off next year. Jackman was all set for the stage play about the escape artist, evening confirming in Sept 2013 that he has even been collaborating in the development of the story.

But things will not go as planned. Jackman confirmed in a statement reported on People magazine that he will be dropping out of the Houdini musical due to conflict in schedule.

"I have greatly enjoyed the collaborative process on Houdini," Jackman was quoted as saying in a statement, according to USA Today, citing a report by People.com. "Ultimately, though, I wasn't able to commit to the time this role will require."

NineMSN Au noted that Jackman has had nothing but good words for the musical’s creative team.

"I have tremendous respect and admiration for the creative team and I wish everyone the best,” Jackman added, said NineMSN Au.

The move has come as a big surprise for Jackman’s fans after the actor’s reiteration that he would be part of the musical last Sept. He was promoting his latest film, “Prisoners” when he told the Australian Associated Press that he was all set to be part of the musical as it hits the stage next year.

The actor also said in the interview back then that he will work out his schedule to spend more quality time with his family after being away to shoot four films back-to-back.

NineMSN Au pointed out that Jackman may likely have more chances of working on another sequel of the “Wolverine” franchise after clearing his calendars from the Houdini musical.

Meanwhile, the producers of the musical confirmed that the project will move forward even after Jackman opted out.

"Hugh has been terrific to have on this part of our journey," Houdini producer Scott Sanders was quoted as saying by NineMSN Au.

"We will continue to move forward with our remarkable creative team as they craft this ambitious new musical."

The show revolves about the life of illusionist and escape artist, Harry Houdini (1890-1900).
