Beer is the third most popular drink in the world after water and tea. It is most widely consumed and is the one of the oldest of alcoholic beverages. While consuming alcohol is bad for the health and the more the amount consumed the greater the impact on your health, there are a few benefits of drinking beer. When consumed in moderation it can benefit the heart, improve mental health, memory and decreases the risk of Alzheimer's.

Heart health

According to WebMD, beer reduces the incidence of heart problems by 20 to 40 percent. This, however, holds true only when the consumption is moderate. According to the study by the researchers at Italy's Fondazione di Ricerca e Cura, drinking over a pint improves heart health. It reduces the risk of developing a heart disease by 31 percent. It is also high in Vitamin B6 as stated by Mail Online, which again contributes towards reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases.

Prevents kidney stones

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, nearly 300,000 people suffer from kidney stones each year. Research conducted have found that beer reduces the risk of kidney stones. A study published in the Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology found that drinking soda increased the risk of kidney stones by 23 percent while beer decreased it by 41 percent.

Boosts creativity and helps you think better

A study published in the journal Consciousness and Cognition via sciencedirect.com found that after drinking beer people are more alert and aware. For this they conducted an experiment on 40 men who had a blood alcohol level of 0.075. They were made to watch a movie and complete a verbal puzzle. Of the 40, those who consumed beer, solved the puzzle faster than the ones who had not consumed beer. Though the figures do not prove that beer stimulates creative processes, several other studies too have found this to be true.

Type2 diabetes

Beer contains only 4 to 6 per cent of alcohol. R. Curtis Ellison, chief of the section of preventive medicine and epidemiology and professor of medicine and public health at the Boston University School of Medicine told Forbes magazine that in moderation beer increases HDL or good cholesterol and decreases LDL. Men's Health Magazine stated that in a research conducted on 38,000 male professionals, it was seen that those who consumed beer in moderation, had lower risks of developing Type2 diabetes compared to those who drink too much.

Good for the hair

Beer is good for the hair and it adds volume to it. Huffington Post reports that washing your hair with beer will help dealing with frizzy hair and even celebrities prefer a beer wash. As it smoothens the hair as well.

Though beer is good for health and benefits the body, moderation is the key. Over indulging in the drink will only cause harm to the body. According to WebMD, beer when consumed in moderation, is good, but an excess can harm the entire system, it has a lot of side effects.
