Liverpool will take on Chelsea in the first leg of the League Cup semifinal on Jan.20th 2015. Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho spoke to the media to speak about the failure to sign Steven Gerrard on his first stint as the Chelsea manager back in 2005 as one of his biggest transfer market failures. Steven Gerrard will leave Liverpool after nearly two decades in the club to join Los Angeles Galaxies and play at the Major League Soccer league next season.

Back in 2005 Mourihno did everything to almost sign Gerrard from Liverpool. He was dreaming of a midfield with Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Claude Makelele. "We were playing in a proper triangle without a number 10 and playing Maka in front of the defenders. Me, Mr. Abramovich and Peter Kenyon at that time, we dreamed of that", Mourihno said while trying to recreate the atmosphere back then.

He goes on to say that Gerrard's agents and well-wishers were okay with him playing for Chelsea but not the man himself. Apparently Gerrard would never personally agree to the move. He always wanted to play for Liverpool and never wanted to score a goal against the Reds. Looking back Mourinho feels that Gerrard was right to stick to his decision.

When quizzed about a song that Chelsea fans sing to ridicule Gerrard to remind him of a critical incident last season when he slipped and conceded a goal which turned out to be decisive in their quest for the title. Mourihno feels that the supporters should not sing that song. He believes that his fans have sung that song too many times and should replace it with other songs that they usually sign.

Liverpool will go into the game against Chelsea in very good form. They have won the last four of the five matches that they have played in. Chelsea have won the last three matches on the trot. The last time that these two teams met Liverpool lost at home to Chelsea with a one-two score line.
