Eugenie Bouchard has ended her season with a loss from Serena Williams at the year-end women's tennis tournament in Singapore. Bouchard has struggled for form in the tournament, having had lost in all three of her round-robin matches to Simona Halep, Ana Ivanovic, and Williams. Despite her unsuccessful campaign at the WTA Finals, Bouchard was amazed with the mood and environment in Singapore, which she thinks can be quite compared to the "Hunger Games."

In a news report by The Globe and Mail following Bouchard's defeat to Williams, the Quebec native recalled tweeting about how the WTA Finals is like the "Hunger Games." She was "impressed" how grand the pre-match ceremony was, with all its glitter and glamour.

"Yeah, just like we're walking out, one person left standing, walking out to our death maybe," Bouchard said. "It was intense."

According to the news outlet, the fact that Bouchard has qualified for the WTA Finals, which is slated for the top eight players on tour, is more than enough to compensate her fruitless run in the tournament.

Bouchard said that she had an exceptional journey at the WTA Finals. She added that she was also dissatisfied with her performance because she knew that she could have done better. Nonetheless, she remains optimistic and hopes to qualify in the tournament in the future.

For now, Bouchard's main focus is to rest, relax, and be with her family. She is going to take some time off as she prepares for the next season.

Bouchard currently ranks fifth in the WTA rankings. She has had a remarkable season. She reached her first Grand Slam semifinal at the 2014 Australian Open, where she was defeated by Li Na in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. It was in January when Bouchard entered the top 20, leaping 12 places up from No. 31 to No. 19.

Bouchard's second Grand Slam semifinal appearance was at the 2014 Roland Garros, making her the first Canadian to reach the semifinals of two Grand Slam tournaments. At the Roland Garros, Bouchard lost to Sharapova, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

In June, Bouchard reached the finals of the Wimbledon Championships. She became the first Canadian to reach a final of a Grand Slam event. She was denied the trophy after losing to Petra Kvitova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

At the US Open, Bouchard was eliminated early after losing to Ekaterina Makarova in the fourth round. She lost to the Russian in straight sets, 7-6 (2), 6-4.
