Last season's thrilling finale episode, where Garcia (Kristin Vangsness) managed to save fan-favorite Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) from the hands of an assassin, seems to be giving Garcia some nightmares. "Criminal Minds" Season 10 episode 2 opens with Garcia finding herself plagued with regret and guilt over sending Reid's would-have-been-assassinator to the death row.

As she takes some personal time off--time that Morgan (Shemar Moore) is not happy with--the BAU team is left to deal with a new unsub who is targeting men. Over at Seattle, the unsub, played by "Dexter's" C.S. Lee, has found another victim who he kills in a bathtub amidst voices being heard presumably in his head.

The BAU team split up to hasten the chase for the unsub as another victim has been reported in. Reid and Morgan then discovered that, instead of looking at the three victims, the mutilations that appeared to be the commonality among the victims turned out to be slashed Roman numerals on the roofs of the victim's mouths. And the numbers they saw are III, IV and V, indicating that there are two earlier victims.

After interviewing the families, JJ (AJ Cook) and Hotch (Thomas Gibson) also discovered that the victims have been tough but fair men, all of whom have been mentoring figures to younger boys. This leads the team to believe that the unsub may have some issues with parents who can be strict and controlling.

So far, the causes of deaths have varied from victim to victim, but when the team finally found another body, this time charred to death, Reid realized that the unsub was not killing victims at random and in random ways. Rather, he was trying to recreate the circles of hell for them.

The BAU team tried to match the clues to the possible killer and managed to land another suspect, who appears to be related to the actual unsub. As it turns out, the unsub is a Justin Leu who is the arrested suspect's high school English teacher. Justin has been in a very abusive family environment, but his brother got the worse end of the stick. His scars run deep after his brother committed suicide and his father's strict methods and even stricter ideals had stayed all his life.

While the Dante's Inferno killer had been apprehended, another side of the story, Garcia's pursuit of Reid's almost-killer continues. She had been trying to talk to him during the entire episode, and even though she got one chance, it ended with her feeling more confused. Finally, after witnessing the criminal get the death penalty and coming home to be consoled by Morgan, Garcia is finally able to let go.
