The resolution gate reared its ugly head once more, this time involving Ubisoft's "Assassin's Creed Unity." In a rather controversial statement to Videogamer wherein senior producer Vincent Pontbriand had said that they locked the resolution of the title to 900fps/30fps so that it will be the same for the PS4 and Xbox One, fans were outraged by the fact that the PS4 had to make way to accommodate a similar run for the Xbox One.

What makes the statement controversial is that the decision to make the resolutions for both PS4 and Xbox One of "Assassin's Creed Unity" was to avoid all the debates that often come with resolution gate issues. This will mean that the run will be similar to last year's AC title, "Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag."

After this, however, Ubisoft went on to give a clarification of the statement, stating that they did not sacrifice one console capability to make it equal to the other. In an official statement to IGN, Ubisoft said, "We understand how Vincent's quotes have been misinterpreted. To set the record straight, we did not lower the specs for 'Assassin's Creed Unity' to account for any one system over the other."

The studio went on to explain that "Assassin's Creed Unity" has been engineered for the next-gen consoles, the first of its kind, and has already been in the drawing boards since four years ago. Ubisoft reiterated that they want to build up toward their goal, not scale down the quality of a finished product.

Still, this does not prevent fans from feeling the rage, as Gamechup reports that a new trending hashtag, #PS4noparity, has emerged on Twitter regarding the "Assassin's Creed Unity" issue. Indeed, it is a far cry from the debates that it was trying to avoid as per the original statement.

This is a shame, if Ubisoft is not able to appease fans, because "Assassin's Creed Unity" does boast a lot of main game and side content that would make the title even more appealing to get into gear with. Over at the Ubisoft Blog, the studio has listed a number of characters that you can look forward to meeting in the side content of the title.

Among these are Dr. Guillotin, the one responsible for the speedy death of his namesake's machine and the Marquis de Sade, most known for his pornographic and violent literary interests. There's also Madame Tussaud, creator of death masks; Antoine Lavoisier, the renowned father of modern chemistry; and the ghost of the Little Red Man.
