Juan Manuel Marquez is nearing retirement but is still looking for one last fight before calling it a career in the sport of boxing. According to Nacho Berstain in an interview with Fight Hype, Marquez’s trainer, they are looking at Kell Brook from the United Kingdom as a possible bout for the Mexican but admitted that it depends on the decision of their promoters.

Fernando Beltran, who promotes Marquez, said last January that they would love to fight Brook, who is considered one of the top contenders in the welterweight division from England.

“Juan Manuel is in England, right now. He and I promote Daniel Estrada. That’s the main reason for his trip to England,” said Beltran to RingTV during that time. “But he would love to fight Kell Brook, because he wants the welterweight title. So when he returns, we’ll talk.”

Brook will be fighting Jo Jo Dan from Romania on March 28, 2015 for his first title defence of the International Boxing Federation, or IBF welterweight belt. Brook is undefeated in 33 pro career bouts with 22 knockouts and along with another British boxer in Amir Khan, is considered the face of boxing in England.

Brook has an impressive resume highlighted by his last five bouts wherein he won four by knockout. He won over Hector David Saldivia via a 3rd round KO in October 2012, over Carson Jones via 8th round KO in July 2013, over Vyacheslav Senchenko via 4th round KO in October 2013, over Alvaro Robles via 8th round TKO in March 2014 and Shawn Porter in August 2014 when he won the IBF welterweight title.

The 41 year old Marquez has mentioned many times that he is nearing retirement and his next fight could be the last. After his resounding KO of Manny Pacquiao in December 2012, Marquez has gone 1-1 in his last two bouts. He lost a split decision to Timothy Bradley Jr in October 2013 and won over Mike Alvarado in May 2014 to win the vacant World Boxing Organization International welterweight title.
