The episode opens with Leonard informing Howard that he ran into his mother the other day. She was with Stuart. Howard tells the guys that Stuart and his mother are not dating. Raj reveals that his mother brought matching pyjamas. Howard admits that his mom and Stuart's relationship bothers him. Sheldon brings up the topic of Gibbon not being classified as a great ape. He ends this discussion at the cafeteria, telling Howard that he has got worse than a Gibbon.

Bernadette and Amy visit Penny and see clothes -- neatly folded -- on the sofa. Penny tells them that she is making room in her closet for her work clothes. Amy picks up Penny's prom dress. Penny tells the girls that she attended seven proms. Bernadette and Amy do not have memorable stories to tell about their prom nights. Bernadette recalls that her date asked her to go with him because he was interested in her friend and the whole time, he kept asking questions about her. Amy has a much sadder story to share. She was part of the clean up group and after the party used to get over, the DJ would allow her to slow dance with the mop. Bernadette says that they can have a promo due-over. Amy is excited to hear that. Penny does not share their enthusiasm.

The guys get the invitations in their inboxes. Raj talks about movies influencing his desire to go to a promo and not jump on a prom bandwagon. He realises that the prom thing has been a real rollercoaster for him. It is revealed that Howard danced with his mother on the prom night because they were playing their song. Sheldon says that he had a date with proper education. For Leonard, Prom night idea is dream come true, as he did not even go to a fake prom with a woman as beautiful as Penny.

Stuart is also coming to the prom. Howard is not happy to learn that, as he believes that he will arrive with his mother. Stuart, however, tells him that he has a date. Howard complains that he is cheating on his mother. Stuart's date is Howard's second cousin. Howard had lost his virginity to her when they were 15 years old.

Seeing that Penny is also reluctant to go on the prom, Sheldon visits her apartment and tells her a coping up mechanism -- pretending to be aliens. Penny asks him if he is planning for the post-prom mating ritual with Amy. Sheldon says that if it is part of prom experience, he is open to it. Penny is shocked to hear that. Sheldon leaves her apartment, saying that he can see that she is a little turned on.

Sheldon tells Leonard that he is fully-prepared for the prom -- taking pictures, slow dancing, getting elected as the prom king. Leonard gives him a piece of advice. He tells Sheldon that if all his friends are having sex, it does not mean that he also has to do that. Leonard tells him that a lot of people lose their virginity on prom night.

Later, Amy tells Sheldon that he looks handsome. Penny wants Sheldon to say that Amy looks hot. Sheldon goes back to his apartment, saying that he cannot do it. Amy follows him and standing outside his room's door, she asks Sheldon what is wrong. Sheldon tells her that prom is the problem as there is a lot of pressure on young couple like them to engage in something that is called "makin' whoopee." Amy is disappointed that Sheldon is not coming out of his room and she is about to go alone upstairs when Sheldon opens the door and tells her that she looks pretty. He tells her that he started to panic because he thought that she looked pretty. Amy tells him to relax and that there is no pressure on him to spend the night together. She tells him that she understands. Amy wants to confess her love for him but before she can say the three words, Sheldon tells her that he loves her, too. He also says that he has feelings for her that cannot be explained in any other way.
