Carol Ann Susi has died at the age of 62 on Tuesday in Los Angeles. She lost her battle with cancer, according to reports. The actress was best known for voicing the role of Howard's (Simon Helberg) mother, Mrs Wolowitz, in CBS' popular comedy series "The Big Bang Theory." The actress never appeared on camera but her loud voice in Brooklyn accent was heard in some of the episodes. She was mostly heard yelling at her son Howard.

"The Big Bang Theory family has lost a beloved member today with the passing of Carol Ann Susi, who hilariously and memorably voiced the role of Mrs. Wolowitz. Unseen by viewers, the Mrs. Wolowitz character became a bit of a mystery throughout the show's eight seasons," producing house Warner Bros, TV., CBS, and "The Big Bang Theory" executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Bill Brady said in a statement.

"In addition to her talent, Carol Ann was a constant source of joy and kindness to all. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with her family during this time, and we will miss her greatly."

According to The New York Times, the late actress said in an interview with The Plain Dealer, published in 2012, that it does not bother her that the writers of "The Big Bang Theory" would never show her character on camera. After casting her as Howard's mother, Lorre had asked Susi if she was okay with not seeing the hair and makeup people for the next 10 years. According to the actress, she had told him, "And I said, 'Not at all, as long as I get paid."

Susi also appeared in "Cheers," "Becker," "Mad About You," "Married... with Children," "Just Shoot Me" and "Seinfeld."

The cast members of "The Big Bang Theory" are mourning the loss of their colleague Susi. In his twitter message, Kunal Nayyar, who plays Raj, said, "My heart is broken. I will miss your smile. Your spirit is forever with us."

Mayim Bialik, who plays Amy, said on Twitter: "Beloved Carol Ann Susi passed away, yes. The voice of Mrs wolowitz. Oh Carol Ann."

Melissa Rauch, who plays Howard's wife Bernadette, said on Twitter: "So grateful to have known Carol Ann Susi who brought laughter & light with her always. She'll forever be in my heart."
