Australian actor Sam Worthington tops highest grossing movie star list
Australian actor Sam Worthington topped Entertainment Weekly's list of highest grossing movie stars under 40
The 34-year old Worthington's movies Avatar, Clash of the Titans and Terminator Salvation earned a total of $US1 billion, upping his box office average to $US349.6 million.
Not far behind in second is Harry Potter star 21-year old Daniel Radcliffe, with box office average $244.7 million.
The magazine released its annual 50 Most Powerful Entertainers list, with actor Johnny Depp on the top spot. Depp is followed by pop singer Lady Gaga. Depp's movies have grossed $5.9 billion (he also has an upcoming movie The Tourist, co-starring Angelia Jolie, a fact which is bound to increase Depp's star wattage). On the other hand, Lady Gaga sold 5.1 million album in two years which securely put the singer on second place.
"We started doing these rankings way back in 1990 - when names like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Madonna were up high - and have come back to it from time to time in various forms (in 2007, it was The Smart List)," said Entertainment Weekly.
" This year, we're freshening things up again, by focusing exclusively on on-screen talent - in other words, folks with recognizable faces only, no agents or studio suits need apply."
