Prisoners leave the cell where they knit creations for Brazilian fashion designer Raquell Guimaraes in the Arisvaldo de Campos Pires maximum security penitentiary in Juiz de Fora, about 100 miles (160 km) north of Rio de Janeiro, May 29, 2013. When Guimaraes had trouble finding knitters for her Doiselles brand of high fashion a few years ago, she found the perfect solution in one of the highest security prisons in the country. She trained 18 prisoners sentenced for crimes ranging from armed robbery to murder, to knit the highest quality in exchange for pay and reduced sentences. Picture taken May 29, 2013. Reuters

An unnamed 41-year-old Australian man who pleaded guilty last week to raping his former girlfriend, burned her flesh and ate some of it, will be sentenced in 2015 in a Sydney court. The violent crimes actually happened eight years ago in 2006.

To indicate the sufferings the woman went through, the report said noughts and crosses were carved on her back. He inflicted the sexual assault and attack on her at his cousin's house in Sydney.

According to 9News, the man forced her to lean on the dining table and he hit her with a belt then placed her face over the top of an open stove. The victim tried to escape, but the front door was locked so he continued the torture in the bathroom, interrogating her over something she had no idea of.

In between the questions, he hit her hard several times on the head.

He left the bathroom and returned with his male cousin. He forced her to kiss the genitals of his cousin and proceeded with more torture by squeezing her toes, fingers and arms using a hair straightener.

He cut off her burnt skin and ate it and then brought her to the bedroom where he used a knife to carve the noughts and crosses on her back as well as poke her genitals with the knife. He then raped her violently.

The woman survived the harrowing ordeal and eventually filed the charges against her former boyfriend with whom she shared a house for one and a half years. Genelle Warne, the female constable who helped the victim, was recognised for her effort and given the Police Officer of the Year award.
