ABC comedy series “Modern Family, has failed to make history in the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, held on Sunday. The show lost to HBO comedy series ‘Veep” for the award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

“Modern Family” would have made history by becoming the only show to win the Best Comedy Series accolade for six straight seasons. As of last year, it was tied with “Frasier” for five consecutive EMMY victories.

In the end, “Veep” claimed the victory after an extremely successful night. Apart from the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, the show’s lead actress Julia Louis-Dreyfuss also brought home a trophy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy. Supporting actor Tony Hale, received an award for his role in “Veep.” The show’s writers also won an award.

This year, coming into the EMMY Awards, opinions were divided about whether “Modern Family” had a strong enough sixth season to take the crown. The other nominees were “Louie” by FX Networks, “Parks and Recreation” by NBC, “Silicon Valley” by HBO, “Transparent” by Amazon Studios, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” by Netflix and “Veep” also by HBO.

Among the other contenders, “Parks and Recreation” as well as “Transparent” were creating a lot of buzz. In the end, it was HBO’s night. “Veep” dethroned “Modern Family.” Another HBO hit show, “Game of Thrones,” won the award for Outstanding Drama Series.

The full list of winners is available at the official 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Award website and in this report.
