The 67th Primetime EMMY Awards is set to air on Sunday, September 20. ABC comedy show “Modern Family” is looking to make history with a sixth consecutive award for Outstanding Comedy Series.

As it stands, “Modern Family” is tied with “Frasier” with 5 consecutive EMMY Awards in the comedy series category. “Modern Family” has again been nominated for the accolade this year, and is poised to claim the top spot as the only series with 6 consecutive awards.

According to Newsday, ABC submitted six episodes from Season 6, for the Television Academy’s consideration. These episodes are the following: "Closet? You'll Love It," "Connection Lost," "Spring Break," "Marco Polo," "American Skyper," and "The Day We Almost Died."

In true “Modern Family” fashion, the aforementioned episodes focus on different characters in the series. The show’s success has been the result of the effectivity of the ensemble cast, where one element does not work without the others. Each character’s relatability to different audience members also allows the show to appeal to a far-reaching demographic.

Despite its success in recent years, a sixth consecutive award isn’t easy to achieve. Here are the other nominated shows that are standing in its way to making history: “Louie” by FX Networks, “Parks and Recreation” by NBC, “Silicon Valley” by HBO, “Transparent” by Amazon Studios, “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” by Netflix and “Veep” also by HBO.

Times Live predicts that “Veep” has the best chance of thwarting “Modern Family” and ABC’s quest for glory this year. “Veep” has a total of 9 nominations this year, against only 6 for “Modern Family.”

Find out if “Modern Family” can make television history in the 67th Annual Primetime EMMY Awards, which takes place on Sunday and airs at 8:00 pm EDT on FOX.
